OxySense

OxySense - Non-Invasive Oxygen Measurement Systems

OxySense® is the leading manufacturer of proprietary, non-invasive, oxygen measurement systems and OTR permeation systems for packaging in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and electronics industries. Our key products are the OxySense 4000B fully integrated non-invasive R&D and QC testing system, the OxySense 210T oxygen analyzer and the OxyOTR™ permeation system.

Non-invasive oxygen measurement systems

OxySense is the world’s first truly non-invasive measurement system for finished packages. The system is unique not only for its ability to measure oxygen non-invasively, but also for its ability to measure oxygen in both the headspace and in dissolved liquids.

The system non-invasively measures oxygen levels in transparent, translucent and semi-transparent packages and has the capability to simultaneously measure the OTR / permeation rate of all films including opaque films.

All OxySense systems comply with ASTM International standard F 2418-08, which covers a procedure for determination of the oxygen concentration in the headspace within a sealed package without opening or compromising the integrity of the package.

Key advantages of oxysense oxygen and OTR measurement include:

  • Non-destructive measuring technique
  • Measures in liquids and gases
  • Fast measurements (5 seconds)
  • Accurate (5% of the reading)
  • Reproducibility is better than 1% (0.2%)
  • Can withstand high temperatures (up to 150° for 1 hour)
  • Does not consume oxygen
  • Independent of pH and salt concentration
  • No interference from other gases
  • Operator-friendly software with automatic logging

OXYOTR™ permeation system

  • In August 2008, OxySense introduced the most exciting innovation in OTR / permeation testing in years
  • For the first time, you can test over 1,000 flat film and finished package samples simultaneously with little or no additional cost
  • Now you can test not only finished flex packages, but "live" finished flex packages

O2XYDOT™ Oxygen sensing

For oxygen sensing within a package, an O2xyDot™ is placed inside a bottle or package prior to filling. The dot is illuminated with a pulsed blue light from an LED. The blue light is absorbed by the dot and red light is emitted. The red light is detected by a photo-detector and the fluorescence lifetime is measured. Different lifetimes indicate different levels of oxygen within the package.

Oxygen measurement for R&D and quality assurance

OxySense 4000B and 210T are easy, accurate and low-cost methods for conducting leak testing and shelf-life studies on Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), oxygen scavenging, closure seals and PET bottles. OxySense models are suitable for both the lab and the processing floor.

Packaging applications for Oxysense

Packaging applications for OxySense include oxygen measurement for blister packs, pouches and bottles, and permeation/oxygen ingress testing for closures and films.
