Brentwood Plastics - Packaging Films and Extrusion Technology

Brentwood Plastics' approach has always been unique. We simply work 'backwards' from your application to tailor the appropriate resin(s) and extrusion conditions to your end-use. We have always been early adopters of extrusion and resin technology.

Industrial films for packaging

We have historically catered to the demands of printers, laminators and bag manufacturers, so our industrial films are made to these higher standards. Most of our products are further converted to some form of packaging.

All of our polyethylene resins are derived from North American natural gas. Polyethylene is simply long chains of ethylene (C2H4) monomers.

We have always offered films that are stronger pound-per-pound than ordinary polyethylenes. This yields a lower package cost. In addition to reducing packaging costs, we conserve natural gas by reducing the amount of plastic per package and quantity of plastic destined for the landfill.

Metallocene monolayer PE packaging film

New METSFT metallocene monolayer PE packaging film is a deep-draw formable packaging film that offers a cost-saving alternative to formable nylon and multilayer co-extruded films when used in non-barrier applications for frozen food, medical components, electronics, pharmacy mailers and retail shippers. It is ideal for packaging that requires deep-draw thermoforming and dimpled surfaces, providing a high melt strength that makes it more forgiving than polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polylactic acid (PLA) and ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH).

METSFT film runs fast on horizontal form/fill/seal (HFFS) machines, which vacuum-form a cavity, drop in product, then seal a top web, saving labor and materials required for high-volume mailers. Rapid hot-tack seals in the presence of contaminants, at lower temperatures than PET and similar films. The addition of a tamper-evident feature helps medical device manufacturers reduce exposure to counterfeiting and repackaged part risk.

Layflat tubing

Layflat tubing is simply flexible tubing that has been flattened out. For some applications requiring strength and pinhole-free seals, seamless layflat tubing works best.

By developing a unique blend of FDA / Kosher-approved resins for your specific application, we can reduce cost usually by simply using less of a stronger plastic. Lead times are not much longer than for stock poly-tubing programs. A small investment in a poly-tubing sealer eliminates the need to keep a variety of bags in stock.

Shrink film

We consider shrink film to be a performance application and not a commodity. For each specific application we run the same resins with the same extrusion conditions, to ensure consistent performance and continuity of supply. Many customers have different requirements within the same facility, so we often make different films (MD/TD shrink ratios, COF, venting, etc.) destined for the same plant.

Shrink films for can / bottle trays and multiple packs

We manufacture shrink films for unitizing, most commonly for trays of cans or bottles. We have both industrial and high-clarity grade shrink films for retail applications.

Our 'REDI' grade was developed specifically for 'film-over-film', or shrink wrapping over printed LDPE shrink films without melting into the printed film.

Multiple packs or 'bulk' packs are also a popular application for industrial shrink film. Unless otherwise specified, our films have minimum transverse direction (TD) shrink, good 'stackability' and are sold by net weight, the honest yield usually providing cost savings.

Frozen food / IQF film

IQF is an abbreviation for 'individually quick-frozen'. This process freezes the bagged product (meat or vegetables) rapidly by exposing it to a blast of air at approximately –40°F.

Our IQF-grade film is stable and strong at extremely low temperatures, and seals at maximum form/fill/seal speeds even when the sealing area is contaminated.

It can be utilized as a monolayer bag, form/fill/seal film or sealant layer of a lamination. It is FDA and Kosher-approved.

About Brentwood Plastics

All of our products are order driven and custom made. We have no stock items. If we do not have a proven time-tested solution for your application, we will develop a custom product in short order.

Continuity of supply is very important to us. We buy the same consistent resins from the same manufacturers. We will run your item with the same extrusion conditions as the version you approve. Our approach produces consistent films every time. We use only 100% pure virgin FDA and Kosher-approved resins.
