Obrist - Aluminium Tubes and Aluminium Cartridges

H. Obrist & Co. AG is a Swiss-based international manufacturer of aluminium tubes and aluminium cartridges. With eight production lines for aluminium tubes the highly specialised company is able to produce tubes with diameters between 16mm and 50mm and contents ranging between 9ml and 322ml.

Our four cartridge lines cater for all diameters of cartridges (in both European and US standards), printed or unprinted. With twelve production lines in total, and clean room packaging facilities, the company has the capacity to produce 250 million aluminium tubes and 80 million aluminium cartridges per year for customers in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and chemical industries.

Aluminium tubes for sensitive goods packaging

In the packaging of sensitive goods the aluminium tube offers unique advantages. It is the ideal packaging for reliably protecting your filled goods from light, extraneous odours and loss of flavour over the long term, and is absolutely taint-free.

The aluminium also prevents the penetration of oxygen. In both the food and non-food sectors this indispensable barrier property makes the aluminium tube a packaging format that fulfils market requirements and is universally recognised.

Aluminium tube closures

To match the desired tube nozzle shape we offer a wide range of closures for our aluminium tubes. To protect against tampering our range includes one-part and two-part safety caps.

Aluminium cartridges for sensitive goods packaging

For products that are sensitive to moisture and oxygen our aluminium cartridges are indispensable. We custom-match the aluminium piston and the sealing medium to suit your individual filling system. Thanks to this sophisticated development all filling goods known to date can be filled without any awkward seaming of the sealing cap.

For your product positioning and the best possible result for your retail markets we offer many standard designs; however, we can also provide individual solutions tailored to meet special requirements.

Aluminium cartridge accessories

We offer a large selection of aluminium cartridge accessories:

• Plastic nozzles in many shapes and colours
• Plastic pistons
• Aluminium pistons and expanding plungers
• ‘Easy open’ aluminium end lids

If you opt for the flanging method of our expanding plunger that we have developed ourselves, you have chosen the ideal sealing system for an aluminium cartridge. The cartridge is equipped with a wax ring. With the aluminium expanding plunger, the flanging of an aluminium lid during production is no longer necessary.

The machine for placing the aluminium expanding plunger can also be obtained directly from us. We will ensure that it works in your filling plant, and we will also train your staff to use it.

Aluminium tube and cartridge printing

Our in-house graphics department addresses your requirements and last-minute changes quickly and flexibly. The entire process takes place in-house, from the processing of the received print documents, through the production of the ‘print-ready copy’, to the printing plates.

Our colours are based on insoluble pigments and are produced on a vegetable oil-base. They are dried under the influence of heat rather than UV. When specifying colours we recommend Pantone, RAL or HKS. Alternatively you have the option to supply a binding colour template, or you can provide the L-a-b coordinates of your requested colour.

Solvent-free lacquer and ink systems

Recognising the urgent need to protect our environment, our production facility is equipped with an ultra-modern thermal exhaust air purification plant. Nevertheless our R&D department is busy testing and developing solvent-free lacquer and ink systems to further improve environmental aspects. We are strong in innovation and this will enable us to consolidate our position as a leader in the market.

ISO-certified aluminium tubes and cartridges

As quality is at the top of the company’s agenda Obrist is ISO 9001, BRC and HACCP certified, and is preparing for the ISO 14000 and ISO 15378 certifications. In addition to our in-house laboratory the company conducts state-of-the-art in-process controls in order to provide a constant top-quality level, whether for standard or customised products.

Almost 50% of the turnover is generated through export activities. Obrist focuses on the European markets, which account for 55% of the overall export revenues, but also services customers in the US, the Near and Middle East, the Far East, South Africa and Australia. The company has its own sales force in the US and collaborates with distributors across Europe and in the overseas markets.
