Pharmaceutical companies Merck and Pfizer have collaborated with Corning for the development of ‘Corning Valor Glass’, a new pharmaceutical glass packaging solution.

The new glass for injectable drug vials is claimed to improve storage and delivery of drug formulations.

Initially, Corning will make an investment of $500m, which is expected to create 1,000 new jobs.

The investment is set to cover the expansion of Corning facilities, as well as the construction of a new plant to support glass production.

It forms the first part of a planned $4bn investment, which could create 4,000 additional high-tech jobs.

As part of the White House’s Made in America Week, the three companies were welcomed to the White House to announce the new pharmaceutical glass packaging initiative.
