Novartis to Change Drug Packaging

18 February 2010

Pharmaceutical company Novartis has agreed to rename its Maalox Total Relief drug and change its packaging, after federal health regulators said consumers have been mistaking it for a milder stomach reliever.

The two products, available over the counter without a prescription are intended for the relief of different symptoms and contain different active ingredients, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said.

The rebranded product is expected to be available in the US by September.
