Germany's plastics packaging sales market has fallen by around 10% in 2009 to €12.5bn ($17bn), according to a new report.
The industry's production volumes also declined by around 8% in 2008 to 3.8 million tons for last year, industry association Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen (IK) said.
The report said that industrial packaging was hit the hardest while consumer-oriented packaging experienced positive growth.
Volatility in materials price markets has been worsened by Europe's move to become a net polyethylene importer, the report said.
Recently, Deutsche Bank has announced a €300m ($408m) funding for medium-sized German companies.
