Canada’s SunOpta Grains and Foods Group has completed an upgrade and retrofit at its Alexandria Minnesota aseptic processing and packaging facility.
The company said the expansion enables it to include 500ml and 1.5 litre packages of alternative alcohol and broth products in addition to the existing 1 litre and 2 litre package formats.
As part of a three-year agreement with a global consumer products firm, the company will produce natural and organic broth and soups in 16oz and 48oz formats, it said.
With the additional configuration SunOpta expects to increase annual sales revenue by $25m.
The company's aseptic packaging facility annually produces nearly 170 million litres of natural and organic alternative beverages such as soy, rice, almond as well as broth and soup products.
