The Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) in the UK is planning to launch new carbon targets for registered retailers, food manufacturers and packaging manufacturers.
Under the Courtauld Commitment-2 programme, WRAP said it could implement a 10% overall carbon reduction target for signatories to the scheme.
The agency also expects its members either to reduce packaging or cut packaging weight of products by using more recycled content or by increasing the amount of recycling of existing packaging.
Courtauld 2 comes five years after the original agreement on packaging reductions was signed by brands and retailers. WRAP said it intends to launch Courtauld 3 in 2012.
Courtauld 1 currently has 42 signatories.
