Environmental Concerns Worry Global Packagers

4 March 2010

New environmental regulations could cause major challenges for global packaging companies in 2010, according to a new study.

Meeting environmental and climate change challenges is among one of the key challenges facing packaged goods manufacturers in the coming year, ICD Research said.

About 18% of respondents from Europe, 35% from Asia and the Pacific, and 30% from the rest of the world have flagged climate change as a major issue, the study found.

Participants have also sited pricing pressures, rising competition and cost containment among other concerns.

Out of the people interviewed for the study, 25% predict recyclable packaging as the fastest growing industry while 19% say biodegradable packaging will grow at a very fast rate.
