Amcor to Double Can Production Capacity at New Zealand Plant

8 March 2010

Australian-owned global packaging manufacturer Amcor said it will invest A$40m to expand the aluminium can production capacity at its Wiri, South Auckland facility in New Zealand.

The company said it aims to double the plant's current annual capacity from 150 million cans when it becomes fully operational early next year.

Amcor said the Wiri plant currently serves the New Zealand market across energy drink, soft drink, RTD and beer sectors, and the new line will meet the demand of the beverage sector.

In February, Amcor completed the A$2.44bn ($3.19bn) acquisition of several pharmaceutical, Asian food and tobacco-packaging businesses from global miner Rio Tinto.
