Advanced Electron Beams (AEB) has launched a beam sterilisation application for PET and HDPE bottles.
The electron beam device, e25ITB, provides a chemical-free sterilisation process for PET and HDPE, preventing chemical migration, AEB said.
The US-based technology supplier said the pharma packaging industry has been using electron beams to achieve microbiological decontamination for years, according to canplastics.com.
AEB said bottle exteriors are sterilised using stationary emitters and the interiors are sterilised with a specially designed nozzle that fits inside the finish of most common aseptic beverage bottles.
The 25cm nozzle is designed to deliver aseptic levels of sterilisation for typical bottle designs with a 33mm to 38mm finish, and up to 120mm in diameter, the company said.
