Mexican beverage company FEMSA, the owner of Coca-Cola FEMSA, said it plans to buy Coca-Cola bottling plants in Canada, according to local media sources.
The company decided to tap the Canadian market after its bid for the Mexican bottler Contal was rejected, Reuters said quoting Mexican daily Excelsior.
The Canadian plants are valued at $4.5bn and have $8bn in debt.
Coca-Cola FEMSA is the world's second-biggest bottler of Coca-Cola.
In February Coke acquired the North American operations of Coca-Cola Enterprises, its top bottler.
