The packaging industry in Brazil is expected to generate revenues of 40bn Reais ($22.6bn) in 2010, up 10.5% compared to 35.4bn Reais last year, a report said.
The industry's production volumes grew 16.3% in the first half of 2010 against the same period in 2009, according to Brazilian economics institute IBRE-FGV.
The report said plastic packaging, which accounts for about 37% of the packaging industry's total revenues, rose due to the replacement of metals and glass with plastic.
Production volumes in the second quarter were up 6% year-on-year, which shows a recovery from the slump in demand caused by the economic crisis and growth due to consumption.
In the first half, food and beverage plastic packaging output was up 25.6%, while the production of bottles and containers climbed 8.14%, according to bnamericas.com.
