Cardinal Health unveils surgical gloves in green packaging
US-based health care services company Cardinal Health has announced the launch of a new sustainable packaging range for their surgical glove portfolio.
The half-fold surgical glove packaging, including the Protexis powder-free and Triflex powdered surgical gloves has enabled Cardinal Health to help reduce consumption of materials and make customers reduce their environmental footprint and minimise waste.
Cardinal Health claims that customers can also maximise their storage space with the new format packaging configuration.
The glove dispenser boxes, which are at least 30% smaller, use 15% less cardboard packaging compared to competitive products.
The boxes are sold in tall packaging configurations and contain individual pouches, which are at least 48% smaller than the available competitive products.
Besides packaging enhancements, the company has also implemented initiatives such as non-hazardous waste recycling, heat recovery and water recycling to address and improve its surgical glove manufacturing operations in Thailand.
Over 95% of Cardinal Health's recyclable surgical gloves feature paper-based wrap material or inner wallets made from renewable resources.
The new sustainable packaging has won a green leaf icon designation from the Premier healthcare alliance, which identifies 'environmentally preferred purchasing products' for its members.
Products and services with the green leaf tag have environment-friendly attributes that help reduce the negative impact on the quality and health of the environment, the company said.
Cardinal Health manufactures gloves, surgical apparel and fluid management products.
