Cascades to close Burnaby containerboard mill

22 September 2011

Canadian packaging and paper products manufacturer Cascades has announced that its Norampac division will close its containerboard mill in Burnaby, British Colombia, by 1 December 2011.

Cascades said production at the mill, which has an annual capacity of 128,000t will be redirected to other Norampac facilities.

The mill produces 100% recycled linerboard, medium and gypsum.

Norampac chief executive Marc-Andre Dépin said the company could not pursue the mill's operations as its profitability has been below expectations for a few years.
