Canadian firm Solegear Bioplastic Technologies (Solegear) and US-based retail packaging provider r-pac International have won an order to provide plant-based bioplastic for smartphone case packaging.

Under the deal, Solegear’s Traverse TF4000 bioplastic will be used for 600,000 smartphone case packages that will be produced by r-pac for a major US-based consumer electronics retailer.

Deliveries under the order will be carried out  from this quarter onwards.

"This latest order represents an ongoing commitment from the retailer to meet demand from consumers for more sustainable products and packaging."

Solegear Bioplastic Technologies CEO Paul Antoniadis said: “Following an initial launch of plant-based smartphone case packaging last fall, this latest order represents an ongoing commitment from the retailer to meet demand from consumers for more sustainable products and packaging.

“Our collaborative partnership with r-pac International means that we continue to develop packaging materials that meet real-world performance and manufacturing requirements for Fortune 500 brands, and these solutions are resulting in long-term customer relationships and commitments.”

The Traverse TF4000 is a USDA BioPreferred packaging material and has independently verified plant-based content and enhanced thermal properties.
