Innovia Films is a leading global manufacturer of two families of speciality products supplied to the packaging, label, tobacco overwrap and securities markets using biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cellulose-based films.
The films are sold to converters, brand-owners and end-users across the globe. They become part of the packaging, labelling or overwrap solution for some of the world’s best known brands across a wide variety of everyday consumer goods. These include chocolates, perfume, cheese, teabags, fresh produce, shampoo, cigarettes, soft drinks and biscuits.
Innovia Films has production sites in the UK, the US, Belgium and Australia and operates a network of sales offices, agents and distributors throughout the world. It employs 1,350 people, and its focus is on delivering high-quality speciality products, maintaining strong customer relationships, research and development, and unsurpassed service.
Research and development is at the heart of the Innovia Films business and it works closely with customers, suppliers, academics and commercial partners to ensure speed of delivery of new ideas and products. Innovia Films prioritises quality of service and support alongside product quality and it has teams in place across the world to maintain the highest possible level of responsiveness to customers’ needs. With a turnover in excess of Є400m, Innovia Films has a total annual film production capacity of more than 120,000t.
The NatureFlex™ range of cellulose-based packaging films is derived from renewable resources and is certified to meet the Australian AS 4736-2000, European EN13432 and American ASTMD6400 composting norms.
These films offer natural and organic product manufacturers the opportunity to align their packaging message with the spirit of their product marketing, by providing them with a compostable, naturally-based packaging material.
The first NatureFlex films were launched in 2003, and, since then, have been awarded 13 major packaging accolades. During 2008 Innovia Films launched NatureFlex NK, a film with a moisture barrier approaching that of co-extruded OPP. This means it has the best moisture barrier of any biopolymer film currently available.
The latest addition to the range is NatureFlex N913, which comprises NatureFlex together with a proprietary sealant layer. It is the first of a brand new family of NatureFlex products that will further increase the technical capabilities of the cellulose-based packaging film. The advantages of NatureFlex N913 include an excellent barrier to moisture and a good barrier to gases and aromas, in addition to enhanced sealability and seal integrity.
The trend towards naked collation of tobacco packs has inspired the development of a range of new easy-open Propafilm™ snap-wrap films.
Scored lines are applied to the film at pre-determined positions to coincide with the edges of packs in the collation bundles. This feature gives localised weakening of the film and offers customers the benefits of snapping the film at the scored lines to remove two packs at a time, whilst the remainder of the bundle stays collated.
Innovia Films, a Global HP Indigo® preferred partner, has expanded its market-leading range of HP Indigo printable label facestock films with Rayoface™ CZDI and WZDI.
These products are ideal for demanding applications requiring resilient conformability on flexible containers such as squeezable shampoo bottles and shower products, lotions and cream tubes, as well as condiments and packaging containers.
Both films feature dedicated superior print receptive top coating for excellent printability by HP Indigo Electroink™ toner systems. This unique top coat has full HP certification for WS2000 and WS4000/4050/4500 presses.
