SIG Combibloc Group’s $565.8m acquisition of SIG Combibloc ObeikanLtd was the packaging industry’s biggest cross border deal of Q4 2020 as cross border deals worth $797.27m were announced globally in the quarter, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 74% over the previous quarter and a drop of 49.5% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $1.58bn.
In terms of number of cross border deals, the sector saw a drop of 12.90% over the last four-quarter average with 27 deals against the average of 31 deals.
In value terms, Europe led the activity with cross border deals worth $565.8m.

The combined value of the top five cross border deals stood at $795.97m, against the overall value of $797.27m recorded for the quarter.
