Reynolds to divest SIG Combibloc to Onex for €3.75bn

Reynolds Group agreed to divest its carton packaging and filling machines supplier SIG Combibloc to Onex Corporation, in a €3.75bn deal.

An agreement to this effect was signed between Rank Group and Onex.

The divestment is in line with Reynolds’ strategy to reduce its debt, Reuters reported.

The Coca-Cola Company, SABMiller and GFI to merge African bottling operations

The Coca-Cola Company, SABMiller and Gutsche Family Investments (GFI) are planning to combine their non-alcoholic ready-to-drink beverage bottling operations in southern and eastern Africa.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, the new bottler, will have the capacity to cater to 12 countries, accounting for approximately 40% of all Coca-Cola beverage volumes in Africa.

SABMiller will own a 57% stake in the proposed merger, while GFI will hold 31.7% and the remaining 11.3% will be owned by The Coca-Cola Company.

Norwegian carton producer Elopak developed the Pure-Pak Sense carton in order to help combat food waste.

With easy-to-fold lines, the carton will allow users to fold the carton and squeeze out more of the product from the pack, which is ideal for high-viscosity products.

This easy-to-fold feature helps in reducing volume in waste or recycling facilities as it allows for convenient flattening of the empty carton.

Planglow develops EU’s FIR-compliant labels

Eco packaging solutions and labels provider Planglow developed a new Gastro Nutri Label and revamped designs of a further six pre-existing label designs to provide allergen information.

The labels will be compliant with the EU’s new Food Information Regulation (FIR), which will come into effect in December.

The new law will require all food providers to mention information of 14 potential allergens, namely gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soy beans, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame seeds, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, lupin and molluscs, within each and every product.

Essentra to acquire Clondalkin’s specialist packaging division for $455m

An agreement to this effect was signed between both companies.

The acquisition is said to form part of Essentra’s strategy to complement organic growth with value-adding acquisitions in its targeted end-markets.

Colbert Packaging introduces patient adherence package MedLock EZT

Folding cartons and rigid paper boxes specialist Colbert Packaging introduced MedLock EZT to its patient compliance packaging solutions.

MedLock, which is a sustainable unit dose alternative to amber prescription vials, employs an integrated, patent-pending locking mechanism to lock a pill blister card in its outer paperboard shell.

The lock can be opened by squeezing and holding touch-points at one end of the paperboard shell while sliding the blister card out through the other.
