Amcor has developed a new all-polyethylene (PE) laminate, Genesis, in an effort to provide in-store recyclability and performance.

Announced in January last year, the move is part of the company’s commitment to make all its products recyclable or reusable by 2025.

The company developed Genesis with a focus on various segments such as fresh produce, frozen food, dried fruits, nuts, confectionery, chilled goods and pet food.

The laminate can be adapted to suit a range of packaging types as well as for use in certain medical, home and personal care markets, noted the packaging firm.

Genesis is designed to offer new levels of clarity, gloss and stiffness for laminations as well as offer in-store recyclable alternatives for brand owners and retailers.

Amcor Flexibles Americas president Tom Cochran said: “Consumer goods need to be packaged with high-quality materials that perform most effectively, with the lowest possible impact on the environment.

“We take considerable pride in developing and making packaging that is constantly better for customers and the environment.”

“Genesis maintains the look-and-feel and shelf life delivered with conventional laminates.”

The company noted that the standardised labelling system How2Recycle has pre-approved Genesis laminate for in-store recycling with other PE film products across North America.

Amcor product development manager Laurent Vincent said: “Genesis maintains the look-and-feel and shelf life delivered with conventional laminates. We are delivering on those requirements while also reducing carbon footprint by 35% against commonly used packaging.”

In September, Amcor created a polyolefin-based flexible film for ambient medium and high-barrier, as well as retort high-barrier applications.
