Ireland-based packaging company Ardagh Glass Packaging has partnered with natural nut butter brand Pip and Nut to develop a sustainable glass jar.

The jar uses more than 50% recycled glass content and features a fully recyclable label and lid.

It was developed in collaboration with UK-based design agency B&B.

Pip and Nut shifted to embossed glass jars from plastic on its whole range of nut butter products in response to consumer feedback.

The move also supports the company in meeting its sustainability goals.

In addition to this initiative, Pip and Nut is working to reduce its carbon emissions and reach net-zero by 2030.

Pip and Nut founder Pip Murray said: “As a B-Corp [a business certified as meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance], we’re always striving to improve on how we can make our products better for the planet.

“With the move to glass jars, we’ve improved the recyclability of our products as glass is more widely recycled in the UK than plastic.

“We always listen closely to what our fans want and they clearly asked us to move to glass, so we are delighted that day is finally here.

“As a brand, we have promised our community that we’ll always deliver on Better Nuts, Better Taste, Better Business.

“This packaging relaunch underlines our commitment to this third pillar and to our overall goal of making nut butter better.”

Pip and Nut’s peanut butter is now available in 300g jars, while its almond butter is being sold in 170g jars.

Ardagh Benelux sales account manager Jolanda Raas said: “This has been an incredible two-year creative journey.

“The result is a sustainable jar with a distinctive design that we are all proud of.”

In June, Ardagh unveiled a ‘bowl’ design it had developed for Odenwald’s fruit sauce jars, created to address consumer concerns and make the product easier to access.
