Turkish packaging printer Barem Ambalaj has invested in additional sheetfed offset technology from Koenig & Bauer, in preparation for a new production plant to be commissioned later this year.

The Rapida 164 six-colour double-coater press with a double coating configuration and triple-length extended delivery is expected to be delivered next month.

Barem Ambalaj plans to install the new press at its ultramodern plant in Gaziantep, which already houses a five-colour Rapida 142 with inline coater and 630mm-raised foundations.

Once the press is commissioned, the company intends to inaugurate the new production plant in November.

Configured with a high-speed package, the to-be-installed press has the ability to print sheets up to a maximum format of 1,205mm x 1,640mm at speeds up to 15,000 sheets an hour.

Accessories for mixed UV/conventional operation are also included with the press.

The press will stand on 630mm-raised foundations and have additional features such as the sidelay-free infeed DriveTronic SIS, FAPC fully automatic plate changers, CleanTronic Multi washing systems and adjustable non-stop rollers.

VariDryBlue IR/hot-air/UV dryers incorporated in the press will also help reduce the energy consumption for drying, while the emission extraction system (EES) is expected to assist in the extraction of unpleasant odours and other emissions from around the printer’s workplace.

According to Koenig & Bauer, the press will also be equipped with reduced-height colour bars to enable optimum utilisation of the sheet area.

QualiTronic ColorControl is responsible for handling inline ink density control, while a LogoTronic CIPLinkX interface in the Rapida 164 will enable the conversion of CIP3 PPF data into press presetting values.

Following the installation of the Rapida 164, Barem plans to undertake the modernisation and expansion of its capacities in Tire, where a new large-format Rapida is expected to be installed.
