Swiss packaging equipment and services supplier Bobst is set to open its second production facility in China later this month.

Set to open on 16 May, the new greenfield facility in Changzhou in the Jiangsu province will cater to web-fed printing and converting technologies for flexible materials.

The move comes as part of Bobst’s plan to expand its operations in the Asian flexible packaging industry.

The new plant is expected to adhere to the company’s manufacturing standards in its delocalised production plants and to the development of gravure printing and lamination solutions as per the requirements of the region.

Bobst South East Asia Business Unit Web-fed zone business director Sebastien Geffrault said: “The success in the region of the RS 5002 gravure press and the CL 750 laminators owes to the fact that they combine the unrivalled quality of the Bobst engineering and the reliable and efficient manufacturing experience and capabilities of Bobst local plants.

“Leading companies choose leading technology and converting companies that choose Bobst will gain an advantage on competition.”

“The other factor, which is a distinctive feature of Bobst technology worldwide, is the flexibility of the equipment in terms of options such as the inking system and the drying, that can be customised for geographically located consumable types and process preferences.”

The facility features a Competence Centre that focuses on providing support and advice to clients in Asia throughout gravure printing and lamination trial runs.

The centre will also serve as a hub for the joint development of process improvements with other suppliers of equipment, devices and consumables, as well as for research and development and testing Bobst’s own equipment.

Bobst Greater China Business Unit Web-fed zone business director Lubin Lu said: “Leading companies choose leading technology and converting companies that choose Bobst will gain an advantage on competition because our leading technology is developed exploiting not only the advantages of our Group’s global synergies but also in cooperation with local competences.

“This means that we can deliver converters equipment and services that are ready for the future of the industry.”

Founded in 1890, Bobst supplies equipment and services to packaging and label manufacturers in the folding carton, corrugated board and flexible materials industries.
