DS Smith has designed a new form of packaging, WonderGrill Box, for Spain-based vegetable coal producer Carbones Fergon.

Coal briquettes are normally packaged in paper bags that are fragile and lead to stained clothes.

Fragile paper bags often tear and reach the point-of-sale in poor condition, which leads to losses and coal dust in lorries, warehouses, and stores.

DS Smith claims its new WonderGrill Box will facilitate the whole supply chain and ensure proper transport and storage, as well as make lighting barbecues safer for customers.

Carbones Fergon CEO Marcos Fernandez said: “DS Smith understood every element of our brief and exceeded our expectations with the WonderGrill box.

“The easy opening and lighting function has made a tangible difference to our customers and this has resulted in significant sales growth.”

"DS Smith has designed a new form of packaging, WonderGrill Box, for Spain-based vegetable coal producer Carbones Fergon."

A sealed rectangular box was created by DS Smith without grooves in the base to prevent coal dust from leaking out.

The package includes a latch in the flap of the closure that hooks into a groove in the box after it is closed.

After the flap is lifted, the coal briquettes can be lit in the central part of the cage.

In addition, the whole package is used to light the barbecue, reducing waste and dirt.
