US-based folding cartons, corrugated packaging producer Green Bay Packaging has installed a new Speedmaster XL 145-7+L printing unit from Heidelberg at its site in Wisconsin.

The newly installed very large format (VLF) printing press features Prinect Inpress Control and Prinect Inspection Control solutions and will run alongside a Speedmaster CD 102-7+L and an existing Speedmaster XL 145 with ultraviolet (UV) inks.

In addition, the Speedmaster XL 145 press features seven printing units and a coating tower.

Capable of handling both conventional and UV inks and coatings, the press is also equipped with a 37ft extended delivery system for maximum curing at full speeds across a wide range of substrates.

Green Bay Packaging president and CEO Will Kress said: “The press provides solid performance day in and day out, holds up well to the challenges of the packaging realm and meets the constant demands of our customers.

With the installation of the new 57in press, the company also expects to achieve increased capacity and improve productivity at its Wisconsin plant.

Heidelberg US VLF product manager Jim Tillery said: “Since launching the VLF platform, Heidelberg has been dedicated to providing the packaging market with the highest quality printing press to deliver peak performance for more net sheets produced daily, monthly and annually than any other press in the 57” and 64” category.”

In 2013, the company provided its first Heidelberg VLF press, an XL 145, for Green Bay Packaging.
