Global lifestyle apparel company Kontoor Brands has achieved a zero-waste status for all of its owned and operated distribution centres in North America.

This status has been awarded as the facilities recycle, compost and reuse 95% waste.

The achievement is a part of Kontoor Brands’ commitment to ensuring its business practices are fully sustainable throughout its global operations and supply chain.

The company’s distribution centres that earned the zero-waste status are located in Mexico City, Alabama, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and Oklahoma.

Kontoor Brands Supply Chain vice-president Randy Fortenberry said: “Waste reduction and the responsible use of natural resources are key components to Kontoor’s sustainability efforts.

“Reaching and maintaining a zero-waste designation at our North American distribution centres is an important milestone in our commitment to having a positive impact on the communities and environments, in which we operate.”

The company’s portfolio includes consumer brands such as Wrangler and Lee.

Kontoor has received the designation by focusing on efficient use of materials and natural resource conservation.

In addition to deploying a standardised waste reporting across all facilities, the company is also developing advanced waste reduction initiatives.

Consulting firm Cascadia Consulting Group has been supporting the company’s waste reduction and recycling efforts. The company has collected data that Kontoor distribution centres used for achieving their targets.

Following the success in North America, Kontoor aims to obtain a zero-waste designation for all distribution centres across the world.

Kontoor commitment to reduce waste will continue to be implemented in its product design and operations at manufacturing facilities, retail stores and corporate offices.
