Linpac, along with Norway’s Leroy Seafood Group, is set to produce a range of new food packaging trays for Spanish retailer Mercadona.

Featuring single, double-portion and family sized packs, the trays will be manufactured from laminated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and incorporate a printed film base tray and a clear anti-fog PET lid.

The packaging will also offer internal spaces for wooden chopsticks and condiments, and be suitable for packing ready-to-eat food, raw fish, non-fish sushi and sashimi.

Linpac product manager Diego Fernandez said: “We turned the full range around in a very short space of time by presenting designs and prototypes to Leroy throughout the process.

“The resulting food-safe solution completely eliminates the need for additional packaging.”

"The design has been streamlined to make it fit for purpose and removes the need for additional materials."

Linpac group marketing manager Nikki Clark said: “This is a fantastic example of how collaborative innovation processes truly add value to our customers.

“In this case, the design has been streamlined to make it fit for purpose and removes the need for additional materials. It’s a truly resource-efficient, total pack solution.”

The company recently announced its plan to participate in the upcoming International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE), where it will introduce its new tray pack solutions for meat and poultry packers and processers.

The company has also partnered with Progressive Packaging for the event, which will be held from 31 January to 2 February 2017.
