A new case study has revealed that the printers from Linx Printing Technologies provide suitable solution for the coding of both primary and secondary packaging at UK-based brewery Fourpure Brewing.

A Linx 8900 Continuous Ink Jet (CIJ) printer is capable of printing three lines of code onto the base of aluminium cans.

Two Linx TJ725 Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) printers are used to print the product information text and a barcode on the boxes into which the aluminium cans are packed.

The Linx 8900 is currently capable of printing 12,000 cans each hour, delivering high-quality codes by printing vertically against gravity.

“Changing fluids is really simple with the printer’s cartridge system, and setup and selection of codes are equally user-friendly.”

The conveyor is placed higher than the printer and a 2m conduit has been provided to enable the printhead to be located directly underneath.

Compared with the traditional method of hand-applying labels to boxes on pallets off-line, the Linx TJ725 printer can code 20 boxes every minute, thereby saving cost and time.

The Linx 8900 is equipped with the company’s autoflush system that thoroughly cleans the printhead when it is shut down for a fast and clean startup.

The Linx TJ725 uses the latest Active Cartridge Care System that helps slow down the nozzle drying process to offer consistent prints every time.

Fourpure Packaging head Steve Morris said: “We particularly like the ease of use of the Linx 8900.

“Changing fluids is really simple with the printer’s cartridge system, and setup and selection of codes are equally user-friendly.”

Both the printers feature intuitive touchscreens for easy set-up and product changeovers.
