British multinational retailer M&S Food has extended its plastic free grocery refill concept to a third store.

‘Fill Your Own’ has now been introduced in the Two Rivers Shopping Centre in Staines, England.

With this launch, customers can shop a wide range of refillable groceries including pasta, rice, cereal and confectionery. It also offers frozen fruit including mango, pineapple and raspberries.

Additionally, the retailer is implementing increased hygiene measures with the latest launch, including increased cleaning and hand sanitiser and extra associates to help customers fill, weigh and pay with ease.

M&S Food food technology director M&S Food said: “As we continue testing and learning from Fill Your Own, it’s clear that demand for refillables remains strong. We know families particularly enjoy shopping the concept as a fun activity, so our new store in the popular Staines shopping centre is the ideal next location for Fill Your Own.

“But most importantly, our customers care about the issue of plastic and this initiative is just one part of our plan to help them reduce, reuse and recycle – because we know our actions today will help to protect the planet tomorrow.”

Initially launched in M&S Hedge End in December last year, the new concept offers more than 50 lines of refillable grocery essentials and frozen fruit.

In March this year, M&S Food extended this initiative to a second location in Manchester.

The initiative is in line with the company’s strategy to reduce, reuse and recycle packaging along with its customers.

M&S Food intends to make 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2022. It has eliminated more than 2,000 tonnes of plastic since 2018.
