Flexible packaging company ProAmpac has launched a premium high-barrier recyclable snack packaging for agricultural cooperative Ocean Spray.

The new packaging leverages ProActive recyclable R-1000 film, which is part of the company’s ProActive Sustainability products.

Ocean Spray will use the recyclable packaging in its Craveology Tuscan Herb snack mix.

Ocean Spray packaging commodity manager Tracey Todesco said: “We partnered with ProAmpac because of their unique approach to innovation, expanding lineup of sustainable alternatives, and how well they align with Ocean Spray’s culture of collaboration and our legacy as a cooperative of farmer families. We’re looking forward to future collaborations with ProAmpac.”

R-1000 is designed to be heat-resistance and features premium sealant technology. It is suitable for high-speed form/fill/seal applications and performs better than typical recyclable mono-material films.

The film is also a recyclable high-performance alternative to existing film laminations and available in standard or high-barrier versions.

R-1000 can be recycled in flexible polyethylene film streams and applicable for store drop-off in the North America region.

ProAmpac product development and innovation vice-president Hesam Tabatabaei said: “When developing the R-1000, we wanted to ensure that it maintained the speed of vertical and horizontal form fill sealing machines and ran much faster than typical mono-material films currently in the market.

“It has been engineered with high heat-resistance and unique sealant technology that resists ‘gum up,’ burn-through and deformation during high-speed packaging.”

Last September, ProAmpac partnered with manufacturer Metropolitan Tea to launch a new luxury teabag pouch.
