Sidel is to acquire polyethylene terephthalate (PET) moulds producer Cognac Moules Emballages Plastiques (COMEP) for an undisclosed fee.

Established in 1998 and headquartered in Salles-d’Angles, France, COMEP designs and manufactures moulds for PET bottles.

The company has around 60 employees working across its operations and produces more than 4,000 moulds each year for customers worldwide.

Sidel is expecting the addition of COMEP to further strengthen its moulds production and tooling operations.

Sidel Services executive vice-president Pavel Shevchuk said: “With this move, we are continuing on the journey we started back in October 2018.

“Then, we enriched Sidel by acquiring PET Engineering, which provides brand strategy and design consultancy, packaging design as well as line conversion services and moulds to the beverage industry.

Both companies will deploy distinct commercial approaches and share best practices while capitalising on efficiencies. COMEP will provide a separate channel to market for moulds and tooling.

Earlier this month, Sidel joined the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment to eliminate plastic waste and pollution.

In October last year, Sidel acquired Italy-based flexible packaging firm PET Engineering, helping to expand its packaging offering.
