US-based coffee retailer Think Coffee has expanded the pilot launch of its Huskee Cup Swap programme across 11 New York City (NYC) locations.

In early August, the company initially introduced the programme at its 73 8th Ave location near 14th St in Manhattan, NYC.

According to the company, around 600 billion non-recyclable coffee cups are going to landfills every year. This programme is aimed at addressing the issue by offering alternatives to single-use cups.

The company manufactured the Huskee Cups using 50% coffee husk and 50% post-consumer plastic. The new cups are durable and recyclable.

As part of the programme, customers who bring their used Huskee Cup to any participating store will be served their beverage in a clean and sanitised cup.

Think Coffee 8th Ave location lead barista Taylor Bloom said: “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for our customers to consume less. The key was finding a cup that everyone will want to use regularly.

“The Huskee Cups have a great design, easy-to-clean and to drink from. Plus, they are made out of an organic by-product of the coffee milling process and so are extra eco-friendly.”

The retailer is offering the cups for $20 at any participating Think Coffee location.

Think Coffee also owns a roastery and a bakery in Brooklyn, US.
