South African company Tropic Plastic & Packaging has purchased a Comexi F2 MB press from Spanish firm Comexi.

The latest acquisition is the third within the last two years and the fifth since 2011. It will be installed in the company’s Durban facilities.

Tropic Plastic purchased the first Comexi machine, a Comexi FPLUS flexographic press, in 2011, followed by a Comexi F2 MP machine. The company’s last three acquisitions were the Comexi F2 MB machines.

The Comexi F2 MB press has been designed to meet the printing needs of medium runs of the retail and wholesale channels.

The flexographic press features patented FLEXOEfficiency concepts of ergonomics and accessibility, as well as the performance and robustness of the Comexi F2 range. It also has a simplified drying system design.

Tropic Plastic managing director Ismail Simjee said: “At the moment, Comexi is the industry leader when it comes to flexographic printing presses. Their attention to detail is immaculate and every element is tailored for our purposes.

“We are well-positioned to take advantage of the new requirements and developments in the African packaging market, primarily as a result of our investment in innovation and partnership with great suppliers such as Comexi.”

Tropic Plastic is involved in the manufacturing of polyethylene films, printing and conversion of flexible packaging in various forms, as well as lamination.

The company has the largest extrusion, printing, bagging and wicketing capacity in South Africa.

Advanced Packaging Technology, based in Cape Town, represents Comexi in South Africa.

Comexi area manager for the region Miquel Gironès said: “We are very happy with our Tropic partnership, as it is based on mutual trust that allows us to grow together.

“The sale of five machines means that Tropic is very pleased with every department of Comexi, from sales to after-sales service, and this fact is very important to us, especially as our machines always run to maximum capacity. For us, growing together is more than a slogan.”
