Packaging company Pro Mach's division, Axon, has supplied Avon Cosmetics in Celaya, Mexico, with a new shrink sleeve labelling solution for lipstick, mascara and eyeliner.
Avon was provided with an EZ-100H horizontal shrink sleeve label applicator, an Axon hot air tunnel and an integrated roller conveyor.
According to Axon, the new EZ-100H applies shrink sleeve labels properly to small, unstable cylindrical products that are not easily conveyed standing on end, such as lipsticks and pencils.
The applicator is rated between 60 to 70 units per minute with cylindrical product diameters measuring from 9mm to 28mm, and film lay-flat size ranges from 18mm to 50mm.
Avon Latin America project engineer Alonso Esquivias said the quality of the label, in terms of appearance and consistent application, is better than what the company was able to do with its previous process.
"The new system also gave us the opportunity to automate the sleeve application process for lipsticks," Esquivias said.
To ensure optimal shrink results, the integrated roller conveyor rotates the cylindrical product during the controlled heat shrink process.
The human machine interface (HMI) is bilingual for operations in Spanish and English, and the machine settings can be readjusted with the push of a button for fast changeover between various products.
US-based Pro Mach provides integrated packaging products and solutions for food, beverage, household goods, pharmaceutical, and other diverse consumer and industrial companies.
The company has manufacturing facilities and offices throughout the US and Canada.
