Germany-based Bizerba has developed a new system solution, known as the ‘Plug-in Label function’, which is an interaction between price labeller and thermo label.
Expected to be launched in autumn 2013, the new function has been developed specifically for the new GLM-Ievo price-labellers and the Bizerba BRL 70 and BRL 90 thermo labels.
It will allow food producers to increase production efficiency and security, according to the company.
Bizerba’s new labeller, GLM-Ievo, identifies the label through a data matrix code available on the back of the label liner strip, and then configures itself automatically.
Commenting on the new function, Bizerba Labels and Consumables sales director Marc Büttgenbach said: "The labeller knows what the material and label layout are, where the printable areas are, what type of coating and adhesive the labels have and what maximum printing speed it can work at."
The use of GLM-Ievo in combination with the completely redeveloped BRL 90 thermo material makes it possible to achieve a printing speed of 300mm per second.
According to Bizerba, another quality assurance feature is available, which provides advantages to factories that produce goods for various countries.
Prior to the labelling process, an automatic check against the PLU number ascertains that labels are always attached to products in the right language for the destination country.
If there is a mismatch between the Plug-in Label and the PLU number, the GLM-Ievo blocks the labelling and displays a warning message alerting the employee to change the roll or call up the correct article.
The machine restarts only if the Plug-in Label and the article correspond.
