The Closure and Container Manufacturers Association (CCMA), a US trade association of manufacturers who produce closures and containers, is set to become part of the International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT), effective 1 April 2013.
A new group will be formed with representatives from both organisations to aid the change.
CCMA chairman Roy Robinson said the board had decided that the time was right to leverage the resources of a larger organisation with which it already shares several common interests and initiatives.
"We now look forward to using our collective efforts to tackle key industry issues together," Robinson said.
CCMA members will have access to additional technical support by joining ISBT, and will also be able to share industry guidelines and standards with global audience.
ISBT will also gain by additional members with operations and processing knowledge from the manufacturers' viewpoint.
ISBT executive director Larry Hobbs said, "We are pleased to welcome CCMA members to ISBT. With their long history of packaging component knowledge and issue-based advocacy, their participation will make ISBT an even stronger industry organisation."
Further supporting the basis for the initiative is the ongoing participation by ISBT in closure initiatives.
The CCMA consists of member companies, while the ISBT comprises individual members.
Going forward, key initiatives including sustainability and recycling, which were previously supported by CCMA, will be integrated into ISBT committees.
