New Zealand company Convex Plastics has created new compostable form, fill seal and vacuum-sealed packs for Australian coffee roaster Coffico Coffee.

Convex Plastics' new Econic rewind film for Coffico's leaf organic range allows the coffee company to continue converting its own bags for fresh roasted coffee beans.

The pre-made vacuum-sealed packs prolong the freshness of the leaf organic fresh ground coffee.

Coffico sales and marketing manager Peter Conversano said that the collaboration with Convex has allowed the company to respond to various market requests for environmentally responsible organic and fairtrade coffee.

"Econic allowed us to fulfil our ideal of being as sustainable as possible. Everything in the leaf organic line is certified organic and fairtrade, and the packaging is compostable," Conversano added.

Econic is made from three renewable flexible films laminated together to provide suitable sealing and barrier properties for coffee and dry foods.

The films are certified to the American ASTM D6400, European EN13432 and Australian AS4736 standards for compostable packaging.

Convex Plastics managing director Owen Embling said: "Wherever possible, we aim to work with our customers to develop custom solutions that meet their specific needs."
