US-based manufacturer and supplier of chemical products Dow Chemical has unveiled new peelable heat seal coating technology under the name Adcote HS 40-555 for polyester lidding film applications.

Developed by the company's Adhesives & Functional Materials business division, the technology is used for lidding film sealing to recyclable fresh food and ready meal containers made of APET and CPET.

Adcote HS 40-555 allows converters to achieve the flexibility during coating of PET peelable films while benefiting from enhanced coating stability, better processability as well as cost-effectiveness.

According to the company, the technology offers good sealability on different types of PET-based containers and maintains better peelability, allowing for easy opening by consumers.

The new heat seal coating technology is capable of minimising the environmental impact of the final packaging while maintaining better optical clarity with low haze.

Dow Adhesives and Functional Materials senior marketing manager Margherita Fontana said that the company's ADCOTE HS 40-555 would provide improved seal and packaging solutions to the packaging industry.

"Dow is continuously looking to improve its product offering to address specific industry needs," added Fontana.

The company claims that its new technology can be directly coated on polyester film, and the coating runs well on existing gravure coating equipment without any problems. The coated film is block resistant up to a temperature of 40°C.
