First Ireland Spirit has launched its O'Mara's Irish Country Cream in the US in a new 1.5l PET bottle manufactured by global designer and manufacturer of plastic containers Graham Packaging.
According to the Ireland-based company, the new bottle from Graham has a bigger size which represents better value for the consumer, and the light weighted PET makes it easier for the consumer to handle and use.
The size of customer orders can also be optimised, which is vital for the company's main export market the US.
Further advantages are expected to come up in the storage and warehousing of O'Mara's Irish Country Cream once it arrives stateside.
Using the Graham PET bottle is said to be in accordance with First Ireland Spirits' commitment to the Bord Bia Sustainability Charter - Origin Green.
Graham Plastic Packaging account manager Simone Gill said Irish Cream Liqueurs need the bottle to have specific colour and light transmission properties to maintain shelf life.
"We developed the bottle that included a standard 31.5mm x 44mm neck finish, which negated any investment for new capping heads on the filling line," Gill said.
A PET bottle is claimed to extend a brand's product range, and in turn offers significant benefits to the brand owner.
PET bottles offer a number of significant savings: more bottles can be fitted into a container, resulting in reduced weight and therefore reduced transport costs.
The major market for the First Ireland Spirit is the US, with sales developing in Australia, New Zealand, Norway and the Ukraine.
