Shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC Packaging Solutions has launched a new eco-friendly and collapsible 208l packaging container for liquid cargo transportation.
The new cost-effective, reusable 'g-drum' has a 'bag-in-a-box' design that uses a internal liner bag, which is flexible and made from 3-ply food and pharmaceutical-grade polyethelyn (PE) film, in order to store liquid cargoes and dry flowable or high viscosity products.
According to the Dubai-based company, which is part of the global shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC Group, g-drums are developed and patented by International Liquid Packaging Solutions (ILPS), and deliver up to 10% savings in overall operational costs.
The contamination risk of sensitive commodities such as foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals or chemicals is mimimised considerably, as the internal liner bag is changed between each cargo load.
The container does away with the need for pre-conditioning and post-cleaning disposal, besides reducing responsible care premiums.
GAC Group vice president - solutions Christer Sjödoff said the principle supporting the company is to develop and bring new solutions to market to address the changing needs of its customers.
"The g-drum really fits that ethos. It is a fantastic product for customers transporting and storing liquid bulk cargoes, offering a much more efficient, cost-effective, safe and environmentally-friendly way of transporting large volumes of liquids," Sjödoff said.
The g-drum units, which are rented out by GAC Packaging on a contract basis, offer complete supply chain management and also manage all documentation and provide track and trace monitoring throughout.
GAC has more than 300 offices worldwide.
