Adhesives manufacturer Henkel has joined the ‘save food’ initiative, which aims to encourage dialogue regarding avoidable food wastage.
Trade show and exhibition organiser Messe Dusseldorf collaborated with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to launch the initative, which is backed by various companies in the food, packaging and logistics sectors.
Save food is aimed at stakeholders in industry, politics and research, encouraging dialogue and helping to develop solutions along the food value chain.
As Henkel’s adhesives are used in many forms of food packaging, it can provide knowledge to food producers to ensure maximum safety in their packaging operations.
Henkel offers adhesives for packaging of food products ranging from breakfast cereals and crisps to perishables such as sausages and cheese.
In 2013, the company launched ‘food safe packaging’ initiative to provide better solutions to the food industry.
Henkel packaging adhesives manager responsible for digital marketing and marketing communications within Europe Harald Bartsch said that the two initiatives complement each other well.
"We support our customers in the food industry with our expertise in this field, and thus also contribute to greater consumer and food protection," Bartsch added.
