UK-based printing solutions provider i-Sub Digital has unveiled Digi-Foil, a new digital foiling system for packaging and labelling applications.
Using a combination of a Mimaki UJF desktop printer, foil and a heated applicator, the equipment can provide colour-accurate mock-ups, short runs and one-offs for proofing within a few minutes.
The digital foiling system has been designed to offer packaging firms with several options and new designs, including metallic, holographic, multi-coloured, opaque, patterned and foil embossed for security-marking purposes. It allows foil to be applied as small as 4pt text or a dot size of 0.3mm, reducing wastage.
i-Sub Digital director Andy Spreag said that the new digital foiling system produces mock-ups that are the exact copy of the finished product, making it easier for firms to choose packaging colours.
"Before Digi-Foil, cutting out pieces of coloured vinyl was the only way to achieve a similar effect on a mock-up, but it was a time-consuming and inaccurate method," he said.
"We are really proud of developing the Digi-Foil system and what it can do for the packaging and label markets: it can cut days or weeks off the prototyping process."
i-Sub Digital offers products that include printer brands such as Agfa, Mimaki and Summa, finishing equipment and cutters. It also provides software upgrading services to packaging manufacturers and other firms.
