Plastic packaging supplier Intelligent Packaging Solutions (IPS) has announced the launch of a new tamper-evident packaging solution, which has been designed for the ice cream market.

A combination of a lightweight paper pot and deep-freeze grade polypropylene lid, the new TE-cap is expected to be launched in January 2013.

According to the US-based company, the design of the lid provides a tamper-evident seal and delivers product security, with easy opening and re-closure for convenience of the consumer.

The lid design is believed to make even paper containers tamper-evident.

"A combination of a lightweight paper pot and deep-freeze grade polypropylene lid, the new TE-cap is expected to be launched in January 2013."

The paper container features an injection moulded break-off tab and skirt, which requires no foil or membrane sealing and provides evidence of any interference instantly.

Well-suited for deep freezing, it provides good insulation and better print quality.

While the paperboard is produced from renewable resources, the lid is suitable for onward recycling.

IPS sales and marketing manager Gerard Connolly said the TE-cap is the ideal packaging solution for brand owners as it eliminates the need for heat sealing, enhances line efficiencies, optimises package safety and protects their brand.

"We are confident that the TE-cap will make an immediate impact in the frozen dairy sector. It offers effective decorative options for visual impact and maintains product freshness, making it ideal for other markets including chilled foods and ready to eat products," Connolly said.

IPS claims it is a convenient way to ensure the consumer that package contents have not been tampered with, before buying.
