CTL Packaging has awarded a $23.6m contract to construction services company KBR Building Group to build a new manufacturing facility in Dallas, North Carolina, US.

The facility is being constructed on a 60-acre site in the Gastonia Technology Park and will be the privately-held company's first industrial manufacturing facility in the US.

The 160,000ft precast facility will produce plastic tubes and caps for cosmetics and personal care products using an injection moulding process, and house production, research and development, warehouse and distribution operations, plant utilities, raw material storage, maintenance operations and corporate offices.

KBR's Research Triangle Park (RTP) office is providing general contracting services for the project, while AEC Engineering is the contracted architect firm.

KBR Building Group executive vice president Frank Holley said that CTL Packaging selected KBR to construct the facility based on its long-time presence in the Carolinas, and its experience in building industrial and manufacturing facilities, particularly in the pharmaceutical and food sectors.

"This project is the largest industrial investment in Gaston County in recent years," Holley added.

CTL Packaging manufactures plastic packaging products for the cosmetics, personal care, food and pharmaceutical industries.
