US-based graphic consumer packaging provider Menasha Packaging has developed 'X Card' blister packs that speed up production, use less energy and reduce costs.

The packaging uses a cohesive application system with a pressure seal that removes heat and dwell time, resulting in an environmentally friendly alternative to heat seal packaging. The packaging also provides better recyclability, as the plastic emerges free from paper and glue residue.

Menasha Packaging business development executive vice president Jerry Hessel said that the X Card will streamline operations and increase throughput.

"We've seen production speeds double for some customers, while greatly reducing their total system costs of packaging," Hessel added.

Carded blister packs are often used to group products such as special promotional items together. They also protect products during transportation and display.

The materials used to create the blister packs also improve packaging graphics and provide a large billboard space to help communicate features and benefits of the product.

X Card can be produced using a variety of substrates, with its minimum size requirement being 10in by 7.5in. Typical blister card sizes are 11in by 9in and 13in by 15in.
