Freedom Integrated Hot Melt Packaging Solution

Packaging companies Nordson and Germany-based Henkel have announced the commercial launch of a new hot melt packaging solution.

The new Freedom integrated hot melt packaging solution combines Nordson's Freedom series hot melt dispensing equipment with Henkel's Technomelt Freedom-certified family of adhesives, to help customers simplify operations and increase productivity as well as sustainability.

According to the US-based Nordson, customers employing the packaging solution gain value in the form of six freedoms.

Specifically, they include freedom from adhesive availability concerns, freedom from downtime associated with char and contamination, freedom from manual adhesive filling, freedom from parent machine mounting and integration limitations.

Customers can also get value from freedom from confusing controls and diagnostics and freedom from excessive adhesive use.

Technomelt Freedom-certified adhesives use polymers that are readily available and less affected by petrochemical feed stock demands.

The adhesive degradation and char that can occur in conventional melter tanks is avoided by tankless melting, while the char potential is mimimised through temperature stability of Freedom-certified adhesives.

The integrated automatic fill system supplies room-temperature adhesive to the melter.

The Freedom melter uses a vertical footprint that also allows it to be mounted anywhere within parent machinery and saves space.

The need for skilled operators is reduced through a simple touch-screen and training, and diagnostic, alert and fault messages are displayed in simple text and in a choice of languages.

Improved adhesive density cuts down adhesive consumption while intermittent bead dispensing capability allows up to 50% less adhesive use.

Nordson Adhesive Dispensing Systems senior vice president Peter Lambert said the company's aim was to reduce packaging costs and complexity for users.

"We looked beyond conventional hot melt systems and approached the adhesive dispensing process from the users' perspective," Lambert said.
