Placon has introduced recyclable plastic thermoformed food containers with a new feature that cuts down the potential for food tampering.
According to the US-based thermoformer of custom and stock packaging, the new 100% recyclable Crystal Seal tamper-evident containers are developed in seven sizes ranging, from 8oz to 64oz.
Produced from EcoStar RPET-F food-grade sheets, manufactured with post-consumer recycled content from bottles and thermoforms, the containers are said to possess no removable byproducts or tear-away pieces and therefore minimise potential choking hazards.
Placon Stock Products sales director Jeff Lucash said a safe, secure packaging is needed to provide increased resistance to tampering and that alerts consumers when products may have been tampered with.
"Tamper-evident containers provide our customers and their consumers with a sense of security that their food hasn't been improperly tampered with after it was initially packed," Lucash said.
Design of the new food containers is double hinged and eliminates the necessity for shrink bands or tamper-evident labels.
Placon claims that the plastic packaging has offset, recessed cavity instructional tabs, which ensure easy gripping and opening, while the leak-resistant design avoids messes or spills.
With minimal ribbing on sidewalls, the stackable containers can be separated by hand or through automation to provide product visibility, the company said.
The food packaging containers have been designed for retailers, brand owners and food processors to display their food items such as sandwiches and salads, deli pasta salads, salsas, single serve desserts and dry packed foods.
Placon designs and manufactures thermoformed plastic packaging for the retail, food and medical markets.
