RPC Containers Corby has launched a new lightweight plastic container that is suitable for various food processes.

The new 380ml apollo container can serve as an alternative to the traditional tin can due to its extended ambient shelf life achieved through a PP/EVOH/PP multilayer structure. It also has all the benefits of plastics, including re-closing, easy handling and safety.

RPC Corby general manager Michael Stegeman said that the lightweight container is a sustainable product as it will reduce food waste.

"The Apollo offers all the established benefits of multilayer plastic in a popular container format," he added.

The container is suitable for food processes including hot fill, retort and pasteurising. Its fluted design is the same diameter as a can and it can be stacked for maximum shelf space. Sleeving and labelling options offer branding and on-shelf appeal.

The foil seal features a plastic ring pull which enables easy opening of the container. An overcap is available for re-closing, helping to reduce food waste.

The package is resistant to breakage and denting and also avoids any sharp edges to provide safety and convenience in the home.
