TECHLAB will use Gold SmartKit packaging from Dynex Technologies for its enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) product line.
US-based TECHLAB will use the Dynex Gold SmartKit concept with compatible automated ELISA processors, including the new Dynex Agility microplate automation system, improving ease-of-use and creating time and cost savings.
The direct-load solution to front-end preparation Gold SmartKit ELISA kit packaging enhances the product offerings of ELISA reagent kit manufacturers, and reduces technician time and the potential for costly data entry errors, said the technology company.
The packaging comprises four main components, which include the consumable bottles of a reagent manufacturers’ ELISA kit, a two-dimensional barcode with lot-specific assay information, a carrier for holding reagent bottles, and a cap holder for reagent bottle caps.
The SmartKit is placed directly into a compatible open system for testing when caps are removed and stored in the cap holder.
The fully-automated ELISA microplate testing system, Agility, allows up to 16 SmartKits to be stored on the instrument and up to 12 different full-plate assays to be processed within its worklist scheduler.
SmartKit inserts are available in gold, silver, and bronze formats.
ELISA products that use the SmartKit Gold format will be delivered to customers as pre-packaged reagent kits that contain all consumables required to perform ELISA tests, preloaded into the gold format insert.
The packaging allows the kits to be loaded directly onto compatible instruments in one step, and the two-dimensional barcode allows the instrument to identify the kit instantly, assay protocol and all lot-specific information, doing away with the need to enter the information manually.
TECHLAB president Charlie Pennington said the new format will allow its global ELISA customers to run more diagnostic tests easily.
"TECHLAB plans to begin offering TECHLAB ELISA products in SmartKit format in the 1st quarter of 2013 through their distribution partner Alere," Pennington said.
