Eastman Chemical Company has expanded its portfolio of resins with the addition of the new Aspira One polymer, a recyclable extrusion blow-moulded resin for beverage packaging.
The sustainable polymer has been tailored especially for electron beam melting (EBM) processes and packaging applications, including clear handleware and large-size bottles, and is compatible in the PET recycle stream.

According to the global specialty chemicals company, Aspira One acts as a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer and offers an optimal balance of product performance and production aesthetics.
Key attributes of the material include sustainability, design flexibility, bottle strength and process efficiency on existing EBM platforms, claimed the company.
The new polymer carries resin identification code one and has received recognition from the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers (APR) in July 2012 for meeting the PET bottle critical guidance document protocol.
Eastman claims Aspira One enables the design of clear and glossy containers such as handles, through holes and other new features.

Aspira One pellets can be dried and processed at lower temperatures compared to other PET resins, resulting in low energy usage, improved melt quality and minimised thermal degradation of the polymer.
Eastman specialty plastics packaging global market development manager Ron Salati said major global beverage companies are expected to use Aspira One bottles starting in 2013.
"Aspira™ One polymer provides the straightforward solution leading converters and brand owners are looking for," Salati said.
